my MR2
Thought id start a new project thread as I finally have a car again!!! ,
After a bit of searching found a clean example.....
MR2 REV 4
2.0L DOHC 16v with ACIS
later version with 174BHP
just had a new clutch, new brakes, and new drop links so happy the way it drives for the moment.
I wasnt quite sure what this ACIS was all about so i did some investigating
ACIS - Acoustic Control Induction System - varies the flow of air into the engine to give improved performance under different driving conditions.
So basically means you put your foot down...it gets louder..its a bit like having VTEC with all the sound but not anymore go lol.....still does sound nice for now!

but..........................
On the way back from picking it up from southampton some muppet on a motorbike decided to take a corner to fast and bounced off my bodywork!!!! Id only had the car 3 hours!!!!!!!!!!
He got a broken leg and the MR2 got a slight graze!...oh well hopefully the insurance will sort it all out and i get some nice shiny new paintwork! not exactly the start i was after!

Re: my MR2
they said 12 to 14 days i wouldnt have the car, dont really know why its going to take so long to fix.
and dont worry jack i still have the modaslow.......i could to a thread but the only mod it has is the packet of wine gums in the door pocket haha
think its got to be collies for first mod martyn, get it looking nice and low.
and i wouldnt really say it puts you in your seat steve, well nothing like VTEC does anyway lol. handles sweet tho

Re: my MR2
The difference in performance you'll get from variable valve timing compared to an active intake system will never match, but it will definitely help give you two 'peaks' in performance. One probably quite low to give you the torque, and one higher up for top end. You wont ever notice a sudden change in performance either unlike VTEC, I don't expect.

Re: my MR2
variable valve timing is different to VTEC anyway........
VTEC improves performance through varying the cam profile.......variable valve timing just alters the fuel and air mixture by increasing valve length on higher revs and ACIS is pretty basic in comparison its just unrestricting the air intake on high revs therefore giving a more refined drive on lower revs similar in a way to how an active exhaust works (stopping the missus from complaining that the engines giving her a headache lol)
like i said makes a nice sound tho!!

Re: my MR2
well si will back me up you could feel the diffrence in accleration loads well im pritty sure its not VVT as there are 4 flap in the intake which are only open about 20ish% percent then at higher rpm around 6.5k they open fully which would then increase the amount of air per minute amount would should increase the horsepower/torque
and ian i guess your comparing a h22 which iver heard have a massive torque diffrence in vtec against a mr2 engine which i can guess the h22 wins hand down
and dont remeber saying that its the same as vtec??

Re: my MR2
yeah that is true steve, i am comparing it to a H22 it was a bit of a beast lol.
yeah im still happy with the MR2 im not denying it still has plenty of ooomph, think i need to have a ride in lukes new corrolla to compare VVT to VTEC.
